Established in response to the 1984 break-up of AT&T, the company's founding mission was to provide Rockefeller Center tenants with a single, reliable source for all their communication needs. Accustomed to the prevailing standards of this world-class property, tenants required nothing less from their telecommunications – accordingly, RGTS was committed to excellence from its inception.

RGTS quickly became the preferred telephone service provider at Rockefeller Center, due to its uncompromising level of client service and its ability to develop creative and flexible solutions. RGTS also extended its services and client roster well beyond that location, currently delivering technology solutions to more than 500 clients.

The company has assiduously maintained its position at the forefront of communications technology, continually providing clients with new services and enhancements as the state of the art evolves. RGTS was among the earliest service providers to offer hosted voice and messaging services in the mid 1980s, and high speed Internet access in the mid 1990s.

RGTS Timeline

1984

In response to the Telecommunications Deregulation Act of 1984, Rockefeller Center Telecommunications Corporation (RCTC) was founded to benefit tenants of the buildings owned and managed by the Rockefeller Group.

Initially, RCTC provided managed voice services, local and long distance calling, cost allocation and reports, and voice mail.

1985

RCTC purchased a new digital private branch exchange and began switching Rockefeller Center from Centrex to a new telecommunications system.

1986-1989

Client list grows to 15 companies representing the financial, legal, publishing and industrial sectors and service organization triples in size.

RCTC officially becomes Rockefeller Group Telecommunications Services, Inc. (RGTS).

RGTS provides service to the RCA Building, the International Building and the Eastern Airlines Building in Rockefeller Center.

RGTS acquires Equitable Information Technologies, a rival telecommunications operation.

RGTS surpasses 8,000 serviced phone lines.

RGTS introduces voice mail to customers. By the end of the year, more than half of RGTS’s customers make use of voice messaging.

1990-1999

Aerolineas Argentinas purchases bilingual automated attendant response service from RGTS.

RGTS launches a newly-constituted wire and cable infrastructure management business and a telecommunications outsourcing business.

Phone system at the new International Arrivals terminal at JFK Airport installed and managed by RGTS.

2000-2006

Over 3,100 new lines installed, bringing the total to more than 500 customers and 52,000 lines in 42 sites.

RGTS installs a Synchronous Optical Network (a SONET ring) for its 10 biggest locations. This SONET ring, which uses fiber optic cable, allows faster and gives RGTS enhanced growth capabilities.

RGTS achieves a 52% growth in high speed internet access.

RGTS upgrades voice switches for compatibility with Internet Protocol.

In response to customer demand, RGTS obtains Public Carrier Certification in California, Connecticut, and New Jersey.

With strategic partner BT Conferencing, RGTS offers audio and web conferencing services.

RGTS experiments with wireless infrastructure technology or WiFi, to support uninterrupted cell phone reception, wireless data connectivity as well as better fire safety communications.

RGTS named one of the top ten IT consultants by Development New York magazine in its annual selection of technology service providers.

RGTS becomes a 1NService member to extend service coverage nationally. Through the affiliation with 1NService, RGTS obtains the ability to serve clients virtually anywhere in the U.S. and Canada.

Network Operations Center in New York became operational 24/7.

Rockefeller Group Telecommunications Services changes its name to Rockefeller Group Technology Solutions to better reflect the breadth of it product and service offerings.

2006

RGTS becomes a Microsoft Gold Partner.

RGTS upgrades existing Synchronous Optical Network (SONET) to Ethernet-based.

John Tarduno becomes President of RGTS.

2007

RGTS is recognized as a Gold Level Partner by Fortinet, a preeminent Security Firewall Manufacturer.

RGTS unveils a new “Presentation Center,” located on Concourse Level 1 at 1221 Avenue of the Americas.

RGTS signed launches its ROCKSafe suite of IT Managed Services. This comprehensive suite of services includes remote monitoring and management, remediation support and patch management services.

2008

RGTS signed Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center, 965-bed teaching and integrated health care system, for the installation of a Vocera Communication System for the Maternity & NICU (neonatal intensive care unit) departments.

RGTS launches a new Metro Ethernet Solution (ROCKTransport).
